Quark mass textures within a finite non-Abelian dicyclic group.

چکیده
Using as a flavor symmetry a finite nonabelian dicyclic Q2N group, we show how to derive quark mass matrices with two arrangements of symmetric texture zeros which are phenomenologically viable. Three other such acceptable textures in the recent literature are unattainable in this approach and hence disfavored. We assume massive vector-like fermions and Higgs singlets transforming as judiciously-chosen Q2N doublets and use the tree-level mass generation mechanism of Froggatt and Nielsen.

Simple Non-Abelian Finite Flavor Groups and Fermion Masses
The use of nonabelian discrete groups G as family symmetries is discussed in detail. Out of all such groups up to order g = 31, the most appealing candidates are two subgroups of SU(2): the dicyclic [double dihedral] group G = Q6 = D3 ( g = 12 ) and the double tetrahedral group (d)T = Q4×̃Z3 ( g = 24 ). Both can allow a hierarchy t > b, τ > c > s, μ > u, d, e. The top quark is uniquely allowed t...
متن کاملAutomorphisms of Cayley graphs on generalised dicyclic groups
A graph is called a GRR if its automorphism group acts regularly on its vertex-set. Such a graph is necessarily a Cayley graph. Godsil has shown that there are only two infinite families of finite groups that do not admit GRRs: abelian groups and generalised dicyclic groups [4]. Indeed, any Cayley graph on such a group admits specific additional graph automorphisms that depend only on the group...
متن کاملTreating Top Differently from Charm and Up*
It now appears phenomenologically that the third family may be essentially different from the first two. Particularly the high value of the top quark mass suggests a special role. In the standard model all three families are treated similarly [becoming exactly the same at asymptotically high energies] so I need to extend the model to accommodate the goal of a really different third family. In t...
متن کاملNonabelian Discrete Symmetries, Fermion Mass Textures and Large Neutrino Mixing
Nonabelian discrete groups are an attractive tool to describe fermion masses and mixings. They have nonsinglet representations which seem particularly suitable for distinguishing the lighter generations from the heavier ones. Also, they do not suffer from the extra constraints a continuous group must obey, e.g. limits on extra particles. Some of the simplest groups are the nonabelian discrete s...
متن کاملOn non-normal non-abelian subgroups of finite groups
In this paper we prove that a finite group $G$ having at most three conjugacy classes of non-normal non-abelian proper subgroups is always solvable except for $Gcong{rm{A_5}}$, which extends Theorem 3.3 in [Some sufficient conditions on the number of non-abelian subgroups of a finite group to be solvable, Acta Math. Sinica (English Series) 27 (2011) 891--896.]. Moreover, we s...
